Hello readers! This post will introduce a book, Each Day A New Beginning, that has played a significant role in my personal Spiritual Recovery journey.
Each Day A New Beginning is a book authored by Karen Casey which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year (2022). This is a book both designed for and created by women traveling the 12-step journey to Spiritual Recovery.
First published in 1982, Each Day a New Beginning has daily meditations along with self-reflection prompts made for those on their 12-step path to self-discovery and Spiritual Recovery. The quote below shares briefly on the purpose of these meditations from the Author’s own words.

“These meditations, one for each day of the year, speak to the common experiences, shared struggles, and unique strengths of women, especially those seeking support and spiritual growth in Recovery.”
– Karen Casey
In the book, each day begins with a quote from a woman in Recovery and ends with an affirmation for the day. At different stages of my life, whether I was following along everyday or just from time to time, this book always seemed to divinely find its way back into my hands when I needed its magic most.

“My first drink at age 13 actually opened the door to unimaginable rewards that have not yet come to an end. Why did I take that first drink? I needed to quell the anxiety that was crippling me. My family of origin fed the anxiety and the solace I sought from anyone outside my home wasn’t forthcoming. Alcohol seemed to be my solution. And it worked until that day when it no longer did.
Coupled with the alcohol, I sought relationship partners and then a first husband who I was sure held the key to ending my insecurities. Alas, codependence finds no solution in relationships.”
